Terms of Use
Plain terms for a small editorial site. Using Emberwright means accepting what follows.
1. What this site is
Emberwright publishes editorial essays on the forge in myth, folklore and fantasy. The material is a reading of published translations and scholarship, written by non-specialists for general readers. It is not original scholarship and it has not been peer reviewed.
2. No advice, and no authentication
Nothing on this site is academic, legal, financial or safety advice, and it must not be relied on as any of those. In particular we do not authenticate, identify or value objects, weapons or antiques, and nothing here should be used as provenance for anything.
Descriptions of historical and mythic metalworking are cultural criticism, not instruction. Do not treat any of it as guidance for practical forge work.
3. Accuracy and corrections
We aim for accuracy and we will get things wrong anyway. Where an essay is corrected, the correction is made in place, dated and left visible rather than removed. Essays reflect our reading of the texts and scholarship at the date shown, and both move.

4. Using our material
Text and original artwork on this site belong to Emberwright. You may:
- quote short passages for review, teaching, comment or news reporting, with attribution and a link to the page;
- link to any page here freely, including deep links to individual notes;
- print pages for personal or classroom use.
You may not republish whole essays, sell the material, or present it as your own work. Requests for anything beyond the above are usually granted — just ask.
5. Third-party work
Where an essay quotes a translation, an edition or a work of scholarship, the copyright in that work belongs to its author, translator and publisher. Our reading of a text is our own writing and may misrepresent it; the source is always the authority.
6. Material you send us
If you send a correction, a citation or an image, you confirm that you are entitled to send it and you give us permission to publish it with attribution. Tell us if you would rather not be named. We will not publish your email address.
7. Availability
This is a static site kept by two people. It may go offline, move, or stop being updated without notice, and pages may be removed or rewritten.
8. Liability
The site is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, anything published here.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
10. Changes
Changes to these terms are published on this page with a new date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it.
